Beautiful Verde River

Enjoy an intimate walk along the Verde River when you visit us at Origins B&B!

We are fortunate to be living along the Verde River, one of Arizona's few rivers with water all year long. (To be precise, we are on a bluff, overlooking the Verde River ... so we're never in any danger of flooding. Which it does, on occasion, as noted in our March 2023 posts.)
Not far from our home, you will find a Nature Preserve, owned by our local community, along which a gentle trail may be taken to enjoy a quiet moment of ever-running water.

The Verde River is home to fish and amphibians as well as birds - both full-time residents and migratory visitors. For instance, the great blue heron is a frequent sight here. And the occasional river otter is spotted along the course of our river.

Of course, people have also lived along the Verde for millennia. The Yavapai call the river Haka'he:la; Apache Tu cho n'Lii. Our friends have reservation land along the river, but their ancestors were displaced 150 years ago as Anglos entered the Verde Valley. They farmed along the river, living in many communities large and small (explore Tuzigoot during your stay at Origins B&B!). One can imagine the many caves found along the river were used for storage or temporary shelter.

Sunrise and sunset are excellent times to visit. Such a peaceful experience!
