Enjoy a stroll along the Verde, just a short walk from Origins B&B!

Serene river flowing through lush green foliage at sunset. Trees are reflected in the water, creating a peaceful, natural scene.
The Verde River provides a great place to reflect!

We are fortunate to live along the Verde River, one of Arizona's few rivers that actually have water in them ... YEAR-ROUND!

(OK, technically, we are on a bluff, overlooking the Verde, far removed from the dangers of a flood; see our March 2023 blog posts.)

The Verde presents a true riparian environment, which is home to fish, amphibians, birds and mammals ... including the occasional river otter!

Golden sunlight graces distant Cottonwoods reflected in the calm water, while tall grasses lie in shadow at water's edge.
A true riparian environment in Arizona's high desert.

In particular, because of its permanent water supply, the Verde has been an important location for seasonally-migrating birds, such as the Great Blue Heron.

The Verde has also been home to people for millenia. The Yavapai call it Haka'he:la; the Apache Tu cho n'Lii. These nations still live on the river, but long ago hunted and farmed along its entire course. One can feel their presence in quiet days.

Sparsely-covered pink limestone cliffs divert the Verde toward the viewer. The near bank is covered with dense grasses.
Small caves decorate pink limestone cliffs along the Verde River.

The river is the lifeblood of the Verde Valley. Its waters eventually flow into the Salt River, then the Gila River. Or into the water systems of the greater Phoenix metro area. But here, far upstream from our Sonoran desert neighbors, its tranquil waters provide an opportunity to relax and unwind, and enjoy nature's beauty.

A small island seemingly floats within the Verde River, with a sun-dappled Cottonwood tree on its bank.
Late afternoon along the Verde.

Its mysteries beckon! Come visit us at Origins B&B!

A late afternoon sun peers through trees along the gently flowing Verde River, whose banks are lined with grasses and bushes. A dirt pathway leads away on the left.
