Fall is a lovely time of year in the Verde Valley. The heat is subsiding and nights are beautiful!

As the days become more comfortable, the landscape begins to change and there is something about the cooler evenings that makes you want to slow down.

If you're considering a fall getaway to Cottonwood, Arizona, here are some of our favorite ways to experience the season.

1. Local annual events

Fall brings a variety of events, live music, markets, tastings and community activities. The official Visit Cottonwood site is the best place to check what's happening during your particular weekend.

Cottonwood's Walkin' on Main

The city's annual Walkin' on Main event, combines wine tasting, art exhibits, retail vendors, a car show and live music in Old Town. This year's event is November 14th, 2026. Check out details.

Truffles!

The annual Chocolate Walk is December 5th, 2026, and combines a stroll along shops in Old Town Cottonwood, with a taste of chocolate from each participating shop! Tickets go on sale starting in October. Get them today!

And if you're visiting with children, Cottonwood's annual Halloween Trunk-or-Treat is scheduled for October 31, 2026, from 4–6 p.m. 

2. Ride the Verde Canyon Railroad

If you've never experienced the Verde Canyon Railroad, fall is a wonderful time to go, as the cool afternoons and evenings provide a perfect time to enjoy the train. 3. Explore Old Town Cottonwood

Fall is a wonderful time to spend an afternoon simply wandering Old Town.

• Browse the galleries.

• Explore the boutiques.

• Stop for Arizona wine.

• Find a restaurant for lunch.

• Listen to music.

Old Town's dining scene includes everything from wood-fired pizza and Southwestern-inspired cuisine to chef-driven restaurants and wine-country dining. And one of the nicest things about Old Town is that you don't necessarily need a plan.
